This is a Portrait of Young MA - HAS - KAH ( Chief of the Ioways ), published by Lehman & Duval, possibly in the 1830's. It measures about 12 1/2" X 18 1/2" ( 31.9 cm X 47.2 cm ). The bottom print reads: Copyright International Art Publishing Co., Inc., Detroit, Michigan 48226, USA. Charles Bird King ( 1785 - 1862 ) was a Washingtonian Portraitist who painted Native American Indian leaders of at least 20 tribes. His portraits were transferred to The Smithsonian Institute in 1858. In 1865, fire burned down the entire gallery and only a few of King's portraits were saved.
