Circa 1770 English Liverpool Pennington Printed Porcelain Tea Cup. This tea cup measures 3 1/4" in diameter at the top opening and is 2" in height and depth. A strong and clean and the glaze just as shiny and bright as the day it was removed from the kiln some 235 years ago. All of the attributes of this cup point toward Pennington-Liverpool even though the cup is not marked. In the main scene there are two sacred garden rocks with holes (volcanic rocks) a large willow tree scattered other plants and a robed female in the style of long eliza. The back side of the bowl has another female standing near a garden fence. Not knowing the name of the pattern, the inside rim of the cup is decorated with a hand pointed honey comb border set between banded lines. The shape of this cup follows the classic mid 18th century chinese hemispherical shape with a tall footring and plain lip. 2" tall. Ring diameter is 3 5/16" and the foot rim is 1 1/2".
