Perfume bottles that showcase an artist's skill and imagination have long been prized for their functionality and beauty. I believe that collections should tell a story. Storytelling adds color to facts and whets the appetite for understanding. During the 1950s, studio ceramics and other craft media in the U.S. began to gain in popularity and importance, and American artists interested in glass as a medium looked for new paths away from factories. Initially an American phenomenon, the Studio Glass movement spread quickly to Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The studio glass movement differs from other 20th-century art glass movements in its emphasis on the artist as designer and maker, its focus on the making of one-of-a-kind objects, including perfume bottles, and its international character.
