Offered is a vintage iridescent purple and green-gold faceted Tom Philabaum studio perfume bottle with a clear glass stopper featuring an exposed purple bubble visible through three faceted windows. The bottle is 5 ½ "(T) x 3 ¼" (W) and signed and dated on the bottom of one side as shown. It is in excellent condition with no chips, scuffs, or repairs noted and minor scratches on the base. Famed glass artist Tom Philabaum (Born 1947) has been making glass sculptures, installations, and functional pieces, including perfume bottles, since 1971. Renowned for his jewel-toned reptilian pattern paperweights and perfume bottles, Philabaum studied glassblowing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under Harvey Littleton, considered the father of the American Studio Glass Art Movement. After graduating with a master’s degree in Glassblowing, Philabaum built his first glassblowing studio in 1975 in downtown Tucson, Arizona, and opened a gallery in 1982. From 1985 to 2020, Tom and his wife Dabney operated Philabaum Glass Gallery in a transformed Tastee Freez restaurant. From 1985 to 2018, Tom produced all of his blown work out of the adjacent studio. He officially retired from glassblowing in December 2018. However, he continues to paint and fuse glass, as he will never stop 'making.' Philabaum Glass is celebrated and admired by patrons of fine art glass and artists alike. The Tucson Museum of Art gave Philabaum its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. His work is exhibited in galleries and museums throughout North America, Europe, and Mexico, including the Seattle Art Museum, the Rockford Art Museum, and Glasmuseum Frauenau in Germany.
