Offered is a vintage (ca 1990) signed Andrew Shea studio glass perfume bottle with frosted chamber encased in clear glass with swirling white stripes and a matching modernist stopper. The bottle is 5" tall, including the stopper x 2 ¾ "wide, signed on the base as shown, and in excellent condition, with minor scratches on the bottom consistent with age and use; no chips, scuffs, or repairs noted. Andrew Shea, whose work is internationally recognized, is a native of Minnesota. Inspired by molecular and architectural structures, this glass artist first studied science, where he learned to look beyond the surface. He transferred this interest in science to fine arts and glass blowing in the early 1970s. Shea transforms his love of geometric shapes and crystalline forms into beautiful, functional perfume bottles. He thinks the perfume bottle is underrated as a format for artistic expression. It offers form, color, surface, depth, interior, and exterior. The stopper allows an interplay that isn't available anywhere else, and facets are integral to the piece. They define the form and are the entrance to the interior. Shea earned an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota and has been working in glass since 1973. He exhibits throughout the United States, and his finely crafted pieces have received numerous awards.
