Offered is a vintage Peter Layton studio glass perfume bottle that reveals his painterly and sculptural approach to vessel making in which a flattened form becomes a canvas for vibrant gestural marks on a vivid purple ground. The bottle is approximately 6 "wide, 5 3/4 "wide, and 1 1/4" deep. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, scuffs, or repairs noted. It is signed near the base, as shown. Artist, pioneer, and mentor Peter Layton is one of the founding fathers of British studio glass. Born in Prague in 1937 and raised in England, Layton studied ceramics at the Central School of Art and Design in London under some of the foremost potters of the day and discovered the art form while teaching ceramics in the US in the mid-1960s. After returning to England, he played a significant role in elevating glass from an industrial medium to a highly collectible art form. In 1976, he opened the London Glassblowing Workshop, and in 2009, he moved the London Glassblowing Studio and Gallery to much larger premises.
