William Lionel Wyllie, British, 1851-1931, "Windy Day Cowes Week- Isle of Wight". A fine detailed etching by British printmaker, William Lionel Wyllie. Created c. 1915, it measures 6 1/2 x 14 3/4 inches and is pencil signed on the l.l. This is a great image of yacht racing in the Solent, where Cowes Week is an annual sailing event. Wyllie was a well known marine painter and printmaker, studying at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and then at the at the Royal Academy. At the age of 18, Wyllie won the Turner Gold Medal for his painting "Dawn After A Storm". He went on to have a long artistic career, specializing in paintings and etchings of the sea and the city of London.
