Albert Huie 1920-2010 Jamaican This is a fine woodcut print by Jamaican artist Albert Huie. This image is hand signed in pencil and titled: Seaside. The image measures 9X6 1/2 inches. Albert Huie (1920-2010) was a seminal figure in the formation and development of a national Jamaican artistic identity, overcoming the hurdles of a colonial-based system of race and class distinctions to become the first native-born Jamaican artist to attain international renown and respect. Working primarily in the areas of landscape, portraiture, and figurative art, he established a multiple award-winning career that spanned seven decades and earned him the title of “the Father of Jamaican Painting.”
