Sterling silver serving master butter in Chrysanthemum pattern. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca. 1890. Double-sided ornament. Curved blade with wavy top rim. This form also tentatively identified as a pickle knife (Tiffany Silver Flatware, p. 144). Historic monogram and date (June 6th, 1895). Hallmark includes the mark of the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893, and the letter M for the directorship of Edward Moore (1873-1891). An early piece in this pattern, which was first produced in 1880. Excellent condition with rich patina.
