Art Nouveau sterling silver vase. Made by Shiebler in New York, ca 1890. Conical on large raised foot. Chased and applied flowers and whiplash curves on shimmering and hand-hammered ground. Stems wrap around body and terminate in dense floral rim.
A controlled and repeating design that is also dynamic and tactile. A wonderful period piece based on the traditional motif that puts the flowers outside the vase as well as inside.
Hallmark includes no. 2657. Very good definition and patina.
