Fabulous quality silver bird. Made by Mario Buccellati in Milan, ca 1930s. Bird in tucked-in mode with wings close to body. Imbricated feathers heightened with engraving as well as bristly wire down. Head turned to side with long closed bill. A poignant figure with the bird’s retreat inside leaf-and-twig nest suggestive of vulnerability. Detachable oval woven basket. A desirable early piece in 800 silver. Fully marked with “800” and “Mario Buccellati”. Fine condition.
