Large American Classical coin silver baby cup. Made by Wood & Hughes in New York, ca 1860. Upward tapering sides with skirted foot and scroll-bracket handle. Jowly, tousled-haired contrapposto cherub applied to front. Two oval frames and one small one (all vacant) surrounded by flowers spilling over into stippled band. Beaded rims. Scroll bracket handle with stippled panels and stylized flying leaf cap between pierced scroll mounts. Gilt-washed interior. A traditional cann enlivened with frothy Rococo and cerebral proto-abstraction. Very good condition.
