Victorian Japonesque sterling silver coffee and tea set. Made by John Edward Bingham in Sheffield in 1890.
This set comprises coffeepot, teapot, creamer, and sugar. Each: Upward tapering rectilinear body with chamfered corners, pierced fretwork foot, and inset crenellated rim. Curvilinear bracket handles and faceted spouts on coffee- and teapot, and rectangular spout with curved front on creamer. Engraved palm trees, birds, and blossoming prunus branches; at bottom fan border. A modish medley in the prevailing Japonesque. Terrific period flavor. Fully marked as well as Walker & Hall stamp and no. 3155. Very good condition.
