Japonesque sterling silver soap box. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1884. Oval and tabbed with hinged and tabbed cover. Double-sided and acid-etched ornament: Vegetation (blossoming and fruiting branches) and animals (bird and camel). Ground has stipple-style irregularity and scattered abstract ornament. Interior gilt. Fully marked including no. 385 and date letter. Very good condition.
