Edwardian Art Nouveau sterling silver box. Made by Levi & Salaman in Birmingham in 1904. Round and wavy form with straight sides and overhanging hinged cover. On cover top in voluptuous relief is scene of daisy divination inspired by Goethe’s Faust when Marguerite plucks off the petals, saying “He loves me, he loves me not.” Here Marguerite is a bare-shouldered nymph with flowing tresses and a heap of daisies to fall back on if she’s not happy with her first result. More daisies forming chain on box sides. Box rests on 4 claw-and-ball feet. Box and cover interior velvet lined. Fully marked. Excellent condition.
