Pair of rare Olympian sterling silver serving bowls. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Square with gently curved sides and corner leaf-mounted clawed paw supports. Repousse rinceaux peopled with piping, strumming, and goat-riding figures. Early pieces in the historic Beaux-Arts pattern that was conceived by French designer F. Antoine Heller and debuted at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1878. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and pattern no. 8089 (first produced in 1884). One bowl has director’s letter M (1873-91). Excellent condition.
