George III sterling silver covered serving dish. Made by Digby Scott & Benjamin Smith in London in 1804. Rectilinear with concave sides and curved corners. Reeded rim interspersed with leaf-and-berry ornament. Cover domed with gadrooned border. On cover top is cast terrier finial with upturned tail, panting mouth, and chained collar. Engraved coats of arms including that of the English royal family. The other has the Latin motto “Frangas non flectes”. Fully marked including retailer’s stamp for Rundell Bridge & Rundell, the principal supplier of banqueting plate to the Prince Regent. Very good condition with nice patina.
