This is a very nice pair of Vue D’Optiques, also called Vue de Perspective, typical from the middle part of the 18th century. This type of etching was very popular during the second half of the 18th century and into the 19th. Vues d'optique were specifically developed to provide the illusion of depth when viewed through a zograscope, also known as an "optical diagonal machine". The first one was engraved by Huquier and is representing the reception of the Knights of The Holy Spirit at La Chapelle de Versaille. A few humidity stains can be seen here and there due to the age. The second one is depicting La Salle Des Festins De Versailles in celebration of the Treaty of Paris (1763), also called the Peace of Paris ending the 7 years war. Here too a few watermarks can be seen. Frames are not original and estimated from the beginning of the 20th century. Dimensions Frame: 14 ¾”high/ 20 ½”wide.
