A large and well-painted Black ground thangka dating to the late 19th-early 20th century. The painting measures 19" X 26", not including the cloth "frame." A portrayal of a wrathful deity surrounded by other wrathful deities on this black painting, mostly delineated with gold highlights. These black ground paintings are referred to as "nagtan" and were intended for the inner sanctum of a lamasery, illuminated solely by the light from butter lamps. This painting clearly was intended for devotiona...

A well-painted thangka dating to the 19th century depicting Vajrapani. The painting measures 9" X 10" and has been sewn down onto a black silk backing (original). Free of any restoration, damage, or repainting. A fine example of this iconic Buddhist image.
This is a relatively modern Buddhist painting, done entirely by hand, depicting Lhamo, a Buddhist protector deity. Exceptionally well painted, as the photos will show, this painting was most probably done in Nepal. The painting itself, excluding the cloth "mount," measures 16" X 21". Given the quality of the painting, my sense is that even though relatively modern, the piece was in fact intended for devotional purposes and not as an item of trade. In exceptional condition, complete with the orig...

This is a very well-painted drawing depicting a snake charmer with a cobra draped around his arm as he plays his flute. The painted area measures 5" X 6-1/2". Not examined outside the frame. Some foxing on the mat (which appears to be silk), and some minor rubbing on the painting itself. A beautiful painting of an unusual subject.

This well-painted 19th century thangka depicts a three-headed tantric "Heruka" in "yab-yum" with his shakti. The figure is probably Vajrakila heruka, although I leave it to the more knowledgeable ones among you to decide the identity. The painting measures 10" X 13" and is free of any restoration or re-painting. In need of a cleaning.

As best I can tell, this is the rare first edition of this print, dating to 1934. Present are both the Watanabe "sausage" seal as well as the red 6mm seal, visible in the lower left corner of the print. The subject is commonly listed as "Snow at Ukimido Temple," and is both rare and highly sought after. The print measures 10-1/4" X 15-1/4", a size commonly described as "oban." As you can see from the photographs, there are some relatively minor condition issues: small pieces of paper tape remain...

This is a well-painted Tibetan thanka depicting the Medicine Buddha. The painting is unframed and measures 10" X 12". Ample gold highlights, including the "aureole" surrounding the Buddha. Minor rubbing, as can be seen in the photos. In need of a good cleaning. Inscription on the reverse.

This is a well-painted Tibetan thangka dating to the last quarter of the 19th century. The piece measures 10" X15" and would benefit from a cleaning. Some creases and folding, as seen in the photographs. A very desirable subject and 100% authentic.

This is an authentic and well-painted fragment from, most probably, a long scroll, illustrating a dignitary carrying a tablet of office being escorted by two court ladies holding banners. The painting is of a very fine quality, and the colors are quite vivid. There are losses and folds as well as areas of rubbing. Gold tracery is visible in various areas of the painting, especially on the dignitary's robe. The painting is on paper and has been reinforced with a paper backing. The painted area me...
This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on a pleasure boat, with three female attendants. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. Inscriptions frame the painting, which appears to be taken from a manuscript. The painted area is roughly 4" X 8" and is in excellent condition. Overall the piece measures 12" X...
This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on the terrace of a palace. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly. The trellised outer border which surrounds the painting itself is embellished with what appears to be metallic silver highlights. The painted area within the trellised frame measures 4-1/4" X 8". This is a very large and elaborately decorated repousse plaque dating to the 18th century. The piece was most probably part of a temple or monastery frieze, or else part of a large mandorla. The piece measures some 24" in width and is 9" in height at its greatest point. In exceptional, outstanding condition. Deep repousse, complete with a band of skulls.

This is a beautifully decorated Neolithic vase, standing just over 7" in height. While the body of the vase is intact and free of repair, it appears to me that the top may have been ground down, although I'm not 100% sure. Additionally, one or more of the four horn-like projections near the rim appear to have been reattached and/or replaced. Notwithstanding, the decoration and potting are superb, as the photos hopefully will show. The pricing is based on and reflects the possibility that the pie...

This is a painted earthenware double-loop handled vase of a type generally classified as Majiayao culture (Machang style). The piece measures just under 5-1/2" inches high and is completely intact and free of repair. Exceptional root marking is visible on the surface which is painted in a series of loops and swirls. Beautifully potted example.

This is an incredibly rare, large copper repousse yantra diagram from Nepal, dating to no later than the 17th century. The entire rim is engraved with a lengthy inscription (untranslated) which may well incorporate a date (?). Extensive devotional remains of puja worship are present together with traces of gilding and can be seen in the photos. An important Hindu relic, the plaque measures 16-1/2" x 13-1/2".

This is a large and early Buddhist applique textile, dating to no later than the mid-19th century. The design consists of a double-dorje centering a "yin-yang" emblem, representing the masculine and feminine principles of the universe. The piece is complete and intact with minimal wear as one would expect. It measures just over 30" in diameter. Textiles such as this one are exceedingly rare and seldom found.

This is a strong, first edition, first state woodblock print,1849-1850, with clear lines and strong colors. The visible part of the image itself measures 9-1/2" X 14". Examples can be found in the British Museum as well as the Tokyo Museum. Not examined outside the frame, so I cannot state whether the print has been trimmed, or the extent of any foxing, damage, etc. It does not appear to have been glued down inside the frame, but I can't be sure. The following description is taken from the catalo...
