This is a genuine, archaic Chinese nephrite axe or Gui scepter. The surface has the expected smooth, "waxy" feel to it. The end is sharpened (which leads me to think it was made as a prestige axe as opposed to a scepter, although the literature seems to view pieces such as this one as either/both an axe and a Gui scepter; e.g. Rawson in Chinese Jade - I've included photos of the pieces listed there for reference). The piece is made from a pale celadon nephrite with darker inclusions and some are...

You are considering an authentic set of three arc-shaped pendants from the Neolithic or Shang period, circa 2000-1500 BCE. Similar published examples can be found in Rawson, Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Ching at pages 158-159 (the latter illustration showing a similar item from the collection of the British Museum). As with the other examples, these three pieces join together to form a ring. To quote Rawson: "This set of pieces belongs to a distinctive category within the very wide ran...

It would be hard to overstate the beauty of this ritual knife, made from an exquisite mottled green nephrite, with swirls of paler green and brown stone. Measuring some 11" in length (29cm) by 3" in height (7.5cm) and 1/8" (.3mm) in depth. The three holes are drilled conically from one side only. Please examine the photos, as they are part of the description. A truly beautiful piece; the stone is tapered to a point from both sides, although not especially sharp. Guaranteed to be ancient to the ...

You are considering a massive neolithic nephrite jade ritual (votive) axe, weighing one pound 10 ounces and measuring 6-1/4" in length by 2-1/4" in width and 1-1/4" in thickness (16cm X 6.5cm X 3cm). Predominantly green in color (celadon), there are extensive black and brown areas, indicative of a stone with a large iron content. Rough at one end, the piece tapers to a pointed edge (not especially sharp). Massive in feeling with a great presence. Guaranteed to be ancient. A truly beautiful examp...

You are considering a rare and beautiful Archaic Chinese Jade Scepter or Tablet, "Gui," dating to circa 2000BC. The piece measures 7.5 inches (18.5cm) in length and is, as one would expect, carved (drilled and polished) entirely by hand. As the photos will show, the stone is predominantly a gray-green nephrite, with some areas of darker brown. There are "striations" visible on the surface, which may indicate that the piece had been wrapped in a cloth/textile, which left an imprint. A similar, al...

This is a large, early and powerful Tibetan copper repousse head. The piece is adorned with a crown of five skulls surrounded by flames. There is some very minor damage to the figure's left ear, a split, visible in the photos. Two of the crowns have lost their finial, again visible in the photos. The piece is substantial, sitting a generous 5-3/4" in height. The piece was most probably surmounted by a flame(?), now also missing. Dating to no later than the early 18th century, and most probably ea...

This is a large amulet with two holes for suspension and was most probably used as a chest piece (pectoral). The polish is so spectacularly well done that the piece feels as smooth as silk when held. The large central hole gently tapers on both sides. It measures a full 4" in length and is 2-1/2" in height. Roughly 1/8" thick. In color a varied green nephrite with a minimal residue of the polishing material remaining on the surface.

This is an example of a well-known type of Neolithic jade ornament from the Hongshan culture. The piece is of a pale green nephrite with brown inclusions and some minor calcification. It measures 2-3/4" in height and is 1-3/4" at the widest point. The piece has an exceptionally smooth, polished feel and is almost paper thin. There are, of course, no traces of any metal tools having been used and the piece has the characteristic tapering to the holes. Comparable examples can be found in Sotheby's...

This very well cast bronze dates most likely to the early to mid-18th century, although I have conservatively dated it slightly later for the listing. The piece depicts a seated lama and measures 4" (10cm) in height. The base is sealed with a double-dorje plate; there appears to be consecration inside. In excellent condition free of any repair. Pieces such as this have fairly well vanished from the market, as those of you who collect in this area are undoubtedly aware. Here is a chance to acquir...

This is an exceptionally well carved authentic neolithic jade axe, or possibly an amulet, considering its size. The piece measures some 5-3/4" in length (14.5cm)and is just over 2" at the highest point. The stone is a grayish-green nephrite with some calcification. The "blade" is unsharpened, although polished to a tapering edge from both sides of the piece. The three holes were formed by a conical drill from one side only. This piece is guaranteed to be archaic to the original purchaser.

This is an authentic nephrite jade huang carved, as one would expect, entirely by hand, done in a translucent pale greenish-gray jade with russet inclusions. It measures some 5-1/2" (14cm) end to end and is in excellent condition given its great age. This is not a modern, or later, copy, but is genuinely ancient and is unconditionally guaranteed to be such to the original purchaser.

This is a large and beautiful nephrite jade bi, with a centrally placed coiled dragon and a pair of phoenix on either edge. The piece is entirely hand-carved, and the carving technique is consistent with archaic practice, utilizing a diagonal grid to space the coils which cover the body of the disc. The coils themselves are carved in opposing directions from one another, consistent again with ancient technique. This manner of carving is illustrated and discussed at length by Jenny So in "Early C...

This is a relatively modern Buddhist painting, done entirely by hand, depicting Lhamo, a Buddhist protector deity. Exceptionally well painted, as the photos will show, this painting was most probably done in Nepal. The painting itself, excluding the cloth "mount," measures 16" X 21". Given the quality of the painting, my sense is that even though relatively modern, the piece was in fact intended for devotional purposes and not as an item of trade. In exceptional condition, complete with the orig...
