A substantial set from Taxco's "middle period" this stunning necklace and earrings demi combines chunky cylinders of azur-malachite with shadow-box sterling box links. The result is quite impressive as the primarily green hues of the stone (the malachite is predominant here) are tempered by the variegated brown of the inclusions, all colors finally reflected in the glowing silver. I love a good chain necklace and this example combines good length with a presence that will never go unattended. The earrings are playful and I really like the "dimpled dot" semi-sphere at the top. Mexican mid-century design with definite allusions to the country's rich archeological past. Measuring
18 1/4" long (wearable; end-to-end is 18 3/4") the necklace is 3/8" wide (the width of the silver links). The earrings are 2" long by 3/8" wide and the set weighs 92.7 grams (77.8 grams for necklace and 14.9 grams for earrings). It is signed with
maker's initials "MCS" as well as "MEXICO" and Eagle 3 assay mark on the necklace and dates in the 1950s-60s. The set is in excellent vintage condition with great presence, beautiful colors in the stone, chunky silver-work, warm patina and no damage or repairs noted.
