 SOLD - Thank you!
Signed by one of the best repousse makers of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance who unfortunately remains still unidentified, this clamper draws on the country's rich pre-Colombian past and is in fact based on a Los Castillo design, if I am not mistaken. Shaped like an imposing Maya or Aztec warrior with the most impressive headdress of feathers and gems the two wings meet at the front with the figures looking in different directions. The feathers continue all the way around the bracelet, their repoussage turning to longer, leaner motifs as they near the hinge. A fantastic example of the kind and a conversation piece of the highest quality and craftsmanship. The clamper's inner circumference is 6 3/4" with the two wings overlapping slightly and held in place by the hinge's as-good-as-new tension. Due to its construction, it can of course accommodate bigger sizes. The bracelet's width in the front is 3 3/8" and tapers down to just over 1" next to the hinge, in the back. Signed with initials "E.S." and "HECHO EN MEXICO TAXCO 925" as well as "STERLING" it dates in the pre-1948 period and weighs 64.5 grams. In excellent vintage condition with a tight hinge.
