The daughter of celebrated Taxco silversmith and designer Antonio Castillo, Mimi learned the art of jewelry design and production from the best and the most talented. While continuing the long and spectacular tradition of the original taller, her innovative creations are also reflective of our 21st century realities and add a mod twist to the Los Castillo repertoire.
The dangle heart earrings presented here are, I believe, a good example of this marriage of old and established to the new and fresh. Accented by tiny beads the chevron upper part holds a traditional amethyst gem yet the volume and "fleshiness" almost of the pronounced heart takes the repousse into a new, more mod direction.
Each earring is 2" long by 1 1/8" wide (at its widest) and the set weighs 20.5 grams. Signed "EMILIA CASTILLO MEXICO M.R.", "925" and bearing maker's identification code "TO-85" this pair dates in the post-1980 period and is in excellent vintage condition.
