One of the best vintage 1950s Taxco sterling silver and stone necklaces I have seen, this chunky, spectacular piece is accompanied by matching dangle earrings. Classy cylinder-and-box construction, only here the colors in the azur-malachite are to die for and the heft of the box links gently softened by geometric cut-outs. I love the vibrant blues in one of the cylinders and the way it stands out of the rest that are mostly green and guarantee all of them to be original to the necklace. The
necklace is 18 1/8" long (wearable; once clasped it gains a little and goes up to 18 1/2") with the cylinder links being approx. 5/16" in diameter and the boxes 7/8" long by equally 3/8" wide and tall. The earrings are just shy of 1 5/8" long with the dimensions of the dangle the same as those of the box links in the necklace and the demi weighs 92.6 grams (necklace alone is 77.8 grams). Signed with
maker's initials "MCS" as well as "MEXICO" and Eagle 3 assay mark on the necklace with the earrings faintly marked as alpaca on the screw-backs yet with the main body and dangle being of sterling quality just like the necklace. The set dates in the 1950s-60s and is in
excellent vintage condition with stupendous colors in the azur-malachite, undisturbed patina (you can always give the demi a light buffing up), impressive presence and easy to wear and enjoy.
