Often referred to as the “Spratling of Peru”, Graziella Laffi was born in Italy but she came to epitomize Peru’s own “Silver Renaissance” in the 1950s. Drawing on the country’s rich historical past, Laffi created jewelry that re-interpreted ancient motifs and designs and contributed to the shaping of modern Peru’s artistic identity. Just like with the brooch at hand, her attention to detail and layering often brings to mind cubist works of art. The pin measures 2 1/8″ tall by 1 3/8″ wide and it weighs 12.5 grams. It is marked with maker’s signature as shown as well as “PERU 925" and dates in the 1950s. It is in excellent vintage condition with meticulously etched and oxidized details, perfect overlay and great patina – this is a brooch with good size as well which is welcome since quite often her brooches are small.
