Vintage Mexican silver long earrings bearing the signature of accomplished Taxco maestro Francisco Rivera, this set is inspired by ancient motifs as is much of Rivera’s “archeological period” jewelry. We don’t really know much about maestro Rivera yet his work is of the highest quality and his designs are quite often truly inspired and original. Here he employs motifs that were also used by Spratling to create a magical pair of earrings, cleverly articulated, with seamless overlay, dramatic oxidation and a playful little spherical dangle to add airiness to the design. Measuring 2 3/8″ long by just shy of 1 1/2″ wide the earrings weigh 25.2 grams (for the set) and are signed with maker’s conjoined initials as well as “HECHO EN MEXICO”, “STERLING TAXO”, Eagle 3 assay mark and des. no 143; 1950s. The set is in
excellent vintage condition, with a playful presence yet substantial at the same time, having great patina, careful craftsmanship and no damage or repairs noted.
