I love Austro-hungarian jewelry and am happy to be presenting this antique silver gilt bar pin here, all studded with faceted garnets and little turquoise cabs. There is something very regal about this genre of jewelry yet for some weird reason, it doesn't read over-the-top for me. It might be the warm patina of the mellowed down gilding that is usually applied on the silver base or the complimentary colors of the stones used. I find this piece so classy - imagine it adorning that buttoned up, crisp white business shirt of yours... The pin measures 2 1/4" long by 5/8" wide (at the center) and weighs 6.8 grams. It bears a full set of hallmarks yet they are so tiny, I can only read the "A" that stands for Vienna. It has been tested, however, and is guaranteed to be solid silver, most probably of .800 purity. It dates in the late 19th - very early 20th c. and is in very good vintage condition with the gilding having mellowed in the most wonderful way over the years, exhibiting nice detail and rich ornamentation, with all its stones present and safely set in their bezels and only the slightest signs of wear as you can see in the photos.
