Modernist Los Ballesteros Mexican sterling silver hinged bracelet, this is a big, showy piece adorned with a multi-faceted blue gem that registers in the topaz / spinel area on my gem tester. Held in a substantial crown setting, the gem is amazing in color and the brilliant way it reflects the light. The design is representative of Taxco minimalism - bare bones yet still possessing a commanding presence. Perfect for the summer, don't you think?
The bracelet has an inner circumference of 6 7/8" (clasped) with the gem-bearing oval station being 1 5/8" tall by 1 3/8" wide and the width of the wings varying between 1 3/16" and 7/8". It weighs a good 72.0 grams and is signed with the Los Ballesteros conjoined initials as well as "STERLING 925" and "HECHO EN MEXICO". I don't see an Eagle assay mark so this is a pre-1948 piece. In very good vintage condition with strong presence yet such a great minimalist design, with a fantastic gem, great in color and size, having great patina and no damage or repairs noted except for a tiny little "kink" on the outer perimeter of the oval station (depending on how you position the bracelet it is either at 6:00 or 12:00 o'clock); not offensive at all but I have taken it into account in pricing.
