Based on a William Spratling original design, this "bamboo" necklace was made in Mexico for Jondell Enterprises Inc, a company founded in New York in 1978. Well-crafted and having good weight to it, its links are held together with sterling wire that makes the necklace very comfortable to wear and quite flexible so that it sits beautifully around the neck. One of the renowned Taxco maestro's modernist creations, the "bamboo" necklace does not come up very often which makes Jondell's contemporary version a worthwhile alternative. Measuring just shy of 16 3/4" long (wearable) by 3/4" wide the necklace weighs 117.3 grams and is marked "Jondell Ent Inc" as well as "MEXICO .925". It dates in the post-1978 period and is in excellent vintage condition with a soft, glowing patina, nice weight with careful finishing and no damage or repairs noted.
