How often does one find an Antonio Pineda locket pendant? Not often enough and if one does come upon such a treasure, what are the odds that it’s going to be big, bold and beautiful like the rare, fantastic example offered here? Hefty and meticulously crafted, from the twist-rope and beading detail surrounding the stone’s bezel to the dramatic amethyst oval that takes up almost the locket’s entire face, to the substantial hand-made chain (by a different maker yet perfectly matching the pendant), everything is exceptionally beautiful and of that high quality all Antonio pieces are known and sought after for. I will leave the rest to the photos except for the specifics: The pendant is 2” tall by 1 1/2” wide; with the two bails (fixed and movable) it adds a 2 3/4” drop to the chain and the chain itself is 30” long. The set weighs 74.7 grams and it is fully marked - the pendant as shown with Antonio’s crown, “970”, “TAXCO” and Eagle assay mark (not very clearly stamped and difficult to read). The chain is marked "MEXICO STERLING" and bears Eagle 3 assay mark. Both components date in the 1950s-60s and the necklace is in excellent vintage condition with fantastic patina, big and impressive yet classically elegant, with a gorgeous amethyst stone, a perfectly matching chain and no damage or repairs noted; a very rare Antonio and a pleasure to wear and to behold.
