Surprisingly comfortable in length for a vintage Mexican necklace of this period, this Deco sterling silver and amethyst foliate beauty comes with its matching earrings. There is something very powerful in the meticulously (albeit with a certain endearing naivete) hand-cut and chased leaf motifs prevalent in the design. Maybe it's the leaves' serrated edges; maybe it's the confident way they combine with the beading and amethyst cabs to form the necklace's central station and the elegant earrings. Be that as it may, what we have here is an excellent - and rare in its design - early Mexican Deco demi. The necklace measures 17 1/4" long (wearable; length can also be adjusted downwards)with its central station being 3" wide with a drop of 2" and the width at the chain being 3/4". The earrings are 1 1/4" long by just shy of 1" wide. The necklace weighs 40.4 grams, the earrings are 8.7 grams and the total for the set is 49.1 grams. The demi is simply marked "STERLING MEXICO" on necklace and "SILVER MEXICO" on earrings and dates in the 1920s-40s. In excellent vintage condition with strong presence, nice patina and an interesting foliate design that doesn't come up often; no damage and no repairs noted - a beautiful set waiting to be worn and enjoyed again.
