 SOLD - Thank you!
It’s been a while since I offered an example of Margot de Taxco’s zodiac jewelry and I am thrilled to be presenting this substantial Gemini pendant necklace here. Zodiac jewelry were popular with many Mexican maestros yet in my opinion, Margot’s creations surpass those of all her contemporaries. Sculptural, big and bold, they can be found as charms to be coupled with chain necklaces and enjoyed as pendants, like here, or dangling off the substantial bracelets she designed for that purpose. The pendant at hand measures 1 5/8” in diameter (not including the bail); with the bail it adds a 2” drop to the chain while the chain itself is 19 7/8” long. The set weighs 48.2 grams (pendant alone is 24.1 grams) and is signed on the pendant with Margot de Taxco’s signature, des. no 5229 and Eagle 16 assay mark and on the chain with Eagle 3 assay mark (of the same period as the pendant yet not a Margot piece). Both pieces date in the 1950s-60s period and are in excellent vintage condition having amazing patina that accentuates the pendant’s sculptural quality; with a fantastic chain that matches the charm’s heft, and no damage or repairs noted.
