 SOLD - Thank you!
I promised yesterday that I had two more of those Sigi Pineda surrealist figures dangle earring sets to present and here is the second pair. There is something as endearing as it is quirky about the specific design line - I am not sure what Sigi was into when he created these - but I find them all weirdly irresistible. Overlay and oxidation are used here too to convey the human form, its hands crossed on the chest, turning a minimalist profile away from the onlooker. What a concept! Measuring 2 1/8" long by 13/16" wide, the earrings weigh 16.2 grams (for the set) and are marked with maker's signature as shown as well as "STERLING MADE IN MEXICO". Though I don't see an Eagle mark, I will date these to the 1950s-60s even though they might be just at the cusp between the pre-1948 period and the Eagle mark phase. The set is in excellent vintage condition featuring a rare design, fun and eye-catching, with the oxidation in pretty good shape as well, and no damage or repairs noted except for the fact that the earrings have been converted to posts (they would originally have been screwbacks), luckily without having destroyed the marks in the process.
