 SOLD - Thank you!
Fortuno Mota, a talented Taxco maestro who in the 1950s and 1960s produced many of Antonio Pineda’s pieces, signs this stunning set of modernist dangle earrings. Crafted in Antonio’s signature fine .970 alloy, the pair reminds me of slender flutes as they elegantly hang off geometric stations with stone inlay. The inlay and the beads in which the dangles end seem to be made of azur-malachite with the second component responsible for the predominantly green and brown hues. When the set came to me it was dark with patina - I have buffed it up a little but am leaving the next lucky caretaker to decide whether to polish more or not. The earrings measure 2 1/2” long by 1/2” wide and weigh 20.2 grams (for the set). They are marked with maker’s signature as shown as well as “TAXCO”, “970” and bear Eagle 183 assay mark. They date in the 1950s-60s and are in excellent vintage condition with deep patina (you can always polish to a higher sheen), great presence, slick and elegant, with all its inlay in place and no damage or repairs noted except for a couple of very small, very shallow surface chips off the beads where the drill came through when they were first bored through - not readily noticeable as it faces downwards and not affecting the way the earrings present in any significant way.
