A classic Mexican Deco jewelry design element silver repousse semi-spheres were used by well-known designers like Fred Davis and anonymous Taxco maestros alike. They come in all sizes and combinations, in all-silver or adorned with stones and glass, and they unfailingly make for stunning jewelry. In this hinged bangle bracelet they are clustered together in fours to create little florets with bezel-set amethyst centers. In the back, they are simply stacked in rows. Impressive in its sculpturality and the splash of semi-translucent purple across its face, the bracelet locks in the front where its two wings meet behind three big cabochons, one of them actually housing the clasp itself. Measuring 6 7/8” in inner circumference (clasped), with its width between 1 5/8” and 1”, the bracelet weighs 55.9 grams and is simply marked “STERLING MEXICO”. It dates in the 1930s-40s and is in excellent vintage condition with beautiful stones, great patina and impressive presence; the repoussage is in very good shape as well with only one little bead having a small impression; no other damage and no repairs noted but some old cleaning liquid residue in the design’s recesses which can easily be removed with a soft brush, should you desire to do so.
