Wonderful Japanese Late Edo Period circular hanging Buddha, called AMIDA SAN SON ZO. The central Amida Nyorai Buddha is seated on a handpainted lotus stand with halo-like KOUHAI in back. Seated on each side of the central Buddha is a Bosatsu, an attendant. The carved wooden Amida Nyorai Buddha and attendants are carved in wood and painted in lacquer and have slightly red hued gold leaf treatment over the entire surface. Underneath each Bosatsu are handpainted clouds. The circular hanging frame measures 20" in diameter and 3 1/2" thick.
