The stone has a lustrous patina and has a very dramatic ‘splash’ of red on both sides. It has never been carved with a designation and the base has now a shallow flake as a result of an impact on the edge, with a little powdery material showing. Further along there is a tiny bruise to the edge. These could be taken out by reducing the length by 0.4cm. Personally the chip does not worry me...

Two Chinese bronze seals, Western Han Dynasty, 206BC – 24AD.

Both with dark patina and in good condition.

Similar seals are illustrated in “The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum”, Volume 30: Ancient Seals.

The larger is 2.1 x 2 cm, the other is very slightly smaller.

A Chinese bronze drum-shaped censer raised on three ruyi feet. Each side is cast with four gamboling lion dogs attracted to a large ribboned pearl of wisdom. The background is covered entirely with fine punch work. The base is signed with the mark of probably the most famous of Ming metalworkers, Hu Wenming. A small Chinese bamboo brush pot with a deeply carved character and maker's signature. The pot is thick-walled and is a nice colour with many signs of use. The inside is very dusty at the base. 19th ~ 20th century.
