The right-hand sheet from the Yokohama-e triptych by Utagawa Hiroshige III (1843–1894) titled Yokohama Kagandori no fûkei, ‘Foreign Ships at the Seafront in Yokohama’. Signed Oju Hiroshige hitsu. Published 5th month, 1870.

He was a pupil of Andō Hiroshige.

An unusual Japanese Satsuma koro in the form of a barrel, the body decorated with symbols of good fortune & longevity, the white metal lid, pierced and engraved with a bird in flight amongst flora, the base with artist signature with Shimizu mon and seal.

An unusual Arita blue & white porcelain plate, circa 1700 - 1750. A smaller dish with similar moulded and gadrooned edge and border of spiky foliage is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. FE.66-1970. An identical dish, dated from the first half of the 18th century is kept at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The base with an apocryphal Chinese Ming Chenghua reign mark and 5 spur marks.

The figures are expertly carved and depict members of the Buddhist pantheon, unidentified by the writer. The material used has a marine origin and is most likely walrus tusk. They are darkened from age and have achieved a pleasing colour. The lotus stands are separately constructed and as they have been produced from a cross-section of the tusk they exhibit the dentine found within...

A jewel-like miniature ‘Imperial’ Satsuma vase, of baluster form with elephant head handles. One side is decorated with flowering lotus, the other with a gourd vine. The base has the signature Hogetsu beneath a blue Shimizu mon.

An old Nanban hanging flower vase, kakéhana, in its original inscribed box. The vase is in fine undamaged condition and has a good old patina. The inscription literally translates as “Nanban hanging flower vase”. The applied decoration is perhaps a depiction of a Buddhist rosary. 19th century.

A Japanese woodblock print of a kneeling male figure drying a shō, a traditional musical instrument of the reed family, a form of mouth organ, over a brazier. The print is attributed to Kitao Masanobu, 1761~1816 and probably dates to the late 18th century.

A good impression with some gauffrage on the kimono collar. The mount is inscribed in pencil “Mafsanobu”.

A good Japanese ukiyo-e painting on paper of a Kabuki actor. Early 19th century.

Approximately 47.3 x 23.4cm long. Laid onto backing paper. Some paper and paint losses. General wear and tear as expected with an old painting but such a good image, well worth some restoration.

The Tosa School was founded in the Muromachi Period of the 15th century, and its painting was devoted to the aristocracy and its lifestyle.

Painted in pigments including silver leaf and black lacquer on paper. The fan is mounted on a paper backing sheet.

A large and very attractive vase by Taizan, delicately painted in coloured enamels and gilding with two continuous fields of decoration, the neck with irises above a cloud band of floral trellis pattern, a swathe of scrolling foliage between formal borders. The base signed Dai Nihon Taizan sei and impressed Taizan.

Approximately 30.7 cm high. This vase appears to have had a charmed life, the enamels, and especially the gilding, are in an exceptional condition.
