A Japanese export porcelain wine ewer. This vessel is of European form with underglaze blue decoration in Chinese late Ming style, probably copied, second-hand as it were, from a Dutch Delft wine ewer.

Arita, 1680 - 1700.

A jug of a very similar design is illustrated by Oliver Impey in [ Japanese Export Porcelain, Catalogue of the collection of the Ashmolean Mu- seum, Oxford. Hotei Publishing, Amsterdam, 2002 ], item 32.

Approximately 20.8 cm high. Perfect condition. There is a firing fault within the foot-rim.
