A fine Japanese Arita export jug, the design after a Dutch Delft ‘kan’ which itself was styled on a Chinese Ming Transitional porcelain ewer made in after Delft model but decorated with a Chinese Transitional style landscape in the main. The neck is decorated in Dutch style with tulips and has been pierced, before firing in the kiln, to facilitate the fixing of a silver or metal hinged lid in Europe.
