A KOREAN HONEY STORAGE JAR, CHOSON, 19TH CENTURY.
A facetted stoneware jar covered overall with a dark chocolate glaze except for the mouth and the foot-rim. The octagonal shape is created by first throwing the vessel on a potter’s wheel and then, when the pot is ‘cheese hard’, boldly shaving the sides. The shoulder has been decorated with a light combed wave. It is apparent from the foot that the pot stood on sand during the firing.
A potter’s pot and heavy enough to support a single flowering branch for display.
Approximately 7 inches (18 cm) diameter, 6.5/8 inches (16.8 cm) high. Excellent condition. Please study the photographs.
