The discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamen, in 1922, sparked a wave of Egyptomania that inspired this large and beautiful plique-au-jour moth brooch, set in high grade sterling. From the Art Deco period, it is outlined in sparkly marcasites, highlighting a broad wing span of blue "open to light" enamel, which appear as miniature stained glass windows on either side of the body -- a bezel set, faceted aquamarine glass stone. Curved, silver antennae rest on the wings and lead to its tiny red glass eyes. This stylized moth is an exceptional specimen. The roll-over clasp is in good working order. The pin stem is slightly bent, and bears unidentified hallmarks. Size: 2 3/4" L x 5/8" W. Marked on reverse: 935. Excellent condition. Circa 1925
