Hanging censer, measuring 15 1/2" from top loop to bottom of censer, 5 1/2" wide, the censer body 8" high. Unmarked, tests silver, 800 or above. Early pieces were rarely marked. The censer body hangs by silver chains, attached to figural subjects, and is decorated heavily with bands of foliate designs and roroco repossee motifs. The bottom of the censer has a rich band of acanthus leaf decoration, with a grape cluster at the bottom. The loop at the very top does not appear to be silver, but censer and chains and lid all are silver. As is visible in the photos, there is considerable tarnish, and dents to the body of the censer, from many years of use. It dates to the 18th century, and appears to be Spanish Colonial, with designs and forms found throughout the Americas during the 17th and 18th centuries. Please view all photos carefully and email any questions. As the item is antique it has condition issues commensurate with age. Shipping via USPS or Fedex.
