Measuring 8 1/4" at the widest point, and weighing 16 troy ounces, this salver bears the hallmark of London 1902, with a makers mark. On three curved and scrolled feet, the salver is in the Chippendale style, with heavy and wide border around the edge. It is engraved in the center with the Birch family crest, which depicts a fleur de lis with a snake entwined and facing to the left. Of heavy weight, and typical of the very fine silver plate works by Elkington & Co. of the 19th century, this oval serving dish is beautifully designed and executed. Measuring 14 1/4" x 9 3/4" x 1 3/4", it is marked on the deep foot, with makers marks and number, and the date mark is 1888.
