2 gallon stoneware crock or churn by Julius Norton of Bennington Vt, 1859 - 1861. Measures 11 1/4" high and 8 1/2" diameter at base. Stamped at shoulder and neck with Julius Norton's name and location, the #2 below the stamp. This form is sometimes considered a churn, but can function as a crock also. Decorated with the double bird design, very rare and desirable. Very vivid cobalt decoration, with blue highlights over the stamped name, location, and size. Applied slip handles. Salt glaz...
