Measuring 12" high, this fanciful carving is by Medardo Blas of the San Pedro Cajonos village in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Medardo was known for very creative carvings, and his sons and daughter have continued his legacy, now carving their own creations. This form is rather unique for Medardo, and is likely an early work by him. It has the same surreal quality for which Sergio Bustamante is known...

Of nice size, measuring 9 1/2", and fairly heavy, this ovoid bronze vase features finely executed designs in the Chinese archaic style, and has a very dark green mottled patina to complement the style. Bird figures are facing one another on each side, and two abstract heads are placed between the sides. The wide band around the birds and mounts are filled with geometric designs in a greek key motif. Unsigned, it likely dates to the early to mid 20th century, though could be a bit earlier...
