Of well cast bronze, with nice detail and lovely dark patina, these bookends depict a Native American Chieftain in full headress. They are seriously heavy, weighing 10 pounds (sure to hold up heavy tomes), and are 6" high x 4 1/2" wide. The detail is very fine, with each feather in the bonnet well defined. Unsigned, they are clearly made by a good company, and likely date to the late 19th century. There are numerous versions of this particular image in bookends, but many lack the detail and weight of this pair, and often are not bronze. Nice patinazation, with slight touches of verdigris in the crevases, and they have no damage, cracks or losses.
