Signed on the base by the renowned workshop of Uriarte in Puebla, Mexico, this very big tibor, or urn, measures 23" high, roughly 19 1/2' wide at the shoulder and weighs 32 pounds. It is decorated in the classic Talavera colors of blue, green, yellow, orange and black over a creamy slip. Over a background of crosshatching blue designs, there are four panels with floral and foliate designs in vivid color, and the base and shoulder area have a black scale pattern, with a scroll design on the neck. All of the overglaze enamels are in high relief, as can be seen in the photos. In excellent condition, with a shallow chip to the glaze on the foot, no cracks or other losses. This is a monumental piece of Uriarte, and older pieces of this size are increasingly hard to find, and contemporary works are priced in the thousands. From an estate in the Palm Beach area, where Mizner designs encouraged the use of Spanish and Mexican decorative arts, with Talavera being an important component. Shipping costs will be pricey, but will be happy to get a quote to any serious buyers. We also could deliver to parts of Florida, or to the Scott monthly Antique Show in Atlanta. Please contact us to discuss delivery options.
