This bronze depicts King Louis XIV in his royal robes and other regalia, standing next to a table containing a small coffer, to which he points, with a key in his hand. The backing over the table contains other French and royal insignia, including a shield and crown. The sculpture is cast in three sections, with some welding evident on the back. It measures 16" high x 17" wide, and is 6 1/2" deep. The casting is fine and well detailed, and there are no losses or cracks to the bronze. The surface has a darkened patina, with darker areas in recessed areas. Unsigned, it dates to the 19th century, and clearly represents the opulent lifestyle and materialism that he insisted upon during his long reign.
