Of large size, and unusual form, this tramp art box contains two drawers and has a lift top revealing a section slightly deeper than the drawers. The top section is 1 1/2" deep, and the drawers are 1 1/4" deep. The lift top section has a mirror built into the top.
The box measures 14" x 10 1/4" and is roughly 12 1/2" high to top of finial.
Heavily decorated with layers of carved wood, some painted, some varnished, making a nice contrast. The paint is a creamy white, with some darker spots, and the varnish is reddish, heavier in some places.
Both the varnish and paint sections have pooled material in the lower areas, with some crazing and darkening.
The ends are decorated with flared designs that are also feet, and the lower apron on the box has cut outs of hearts and other shapes.
The interior of the drawers and top are painted a pale yellow.
Three glass knobs are on the front, two for the drawers and the top one is decorative only, as the top lifts.
The wood appears to be pine, and on the bottom of a drawer, which is unpainted, a knot is evident, and the grain looks like pine.
In good condition, with visible repaired breaks on some of the corner sections, and one small piece is missing on the finial, all visible in photos.
The overall size, use of paint, and nice cutouts make for a pleasing and unique design, and the size is impressive.
